Sonnet by Isabella Alckmin: Cages

Cages

I have lived through a sea, a cloudless sky

Cages cannot contain a beating heart

I see the abstract, where the matters lie

My soul sees not which to love and why part

Your life is set by a string of pages

From blatant deception to cloudy truth

The words you follow so blindly, cages

Our lives, our freedom and our healthy youth

The lord I follow is only but one

It comes in tragedy or butterflies

If you ask for a picture? There is none

True love arrives in a sweet disguise

But now she is cold and far from my reach

And I moan, weep and cry and I beseech
